For this assignment we where required to further our knowledge on body mechanics, following laws of physics whilst still being aware of the principles of animation and how each body part would be affected.

Introductory exercises -

This was where we got to start experimenting with Maya and learning how to navigate our way around the interface. After we had become somewhat familiarised, we started with a bouncing ball[create link to video]. Overall repeating the animation cycle seems odd but it was nice to see improvements in my own process of animation.

After class we where given the task of creating a simple action that had anticipation, action and follow-through. reference which i used was from this video clip.

i liked this because i could go through frame by frame in you tube and figure out poses that would become my keys. i chose to do an action that would have my character bending down onto one knee, with some hand movements to get myself use to animating more than one body part at a time.

Here are the poses sketched out. things to take note is the left leg that will need to be rotated as the character drops to bend and placing the arm at the correct angles between swings.

The finished result of this was placed aside as i did not set up the rig correctly, so the result i got had the knees jumping around. As the rig was operating on a parallel evaluation mode rather than a DG. to show that i still used reference though i looked to you tube for a simple reference video i could pull apart and recreate with the rig in DG.

The link below is to my google drive where i have stored play blasts of progress as well as the krita file that has the drawn thumbnails i used to layout keys before taking the animation over to Maya.

Animating in Maya

So for animation, up until week eight, i feel that i have a solid enough understanding of the human anatomy to try a mini challenge and...
