Process work - Feferi Peixes

After re-installing photoshop to my new laptop, I decided to experiment with both the opacity settings/layer affects in order to create a grey scale portrait that still empasised the shading which I was drawn to after watching a fellow artists painting technique. the challenge for me was to draw the portrait In my developing stile whilst still maintaining the common characteristics that Feferi is known for.

Feferi is a character created by Andrew Hussie and can be seen in his popular webcomic Homestuck. She is known as a troll and a sea dweller. she is assosicated to the pieces star sign and her candy coloured horns are also a feature that is to represent the top half of her astrological sign. I used reference from the comic in order to attain the proportions of her hair and horns before continuing onto the shading.

Shading was completed in core segments; eyes, cheeks, mouth, neck. I used the general composition of a humans facial anatomy to construct where the muscling would sit, however taking into consideration the fact the this character and is not human. I chose to exaggerate the eyes and give them a concave effect. The mouth was also stretched in order to emphasise the sharp teeth that these trolls have.

The final product! I decided to stick with the dominant colour of fascia pink that is Feferi's troll blood colour and as such, the pink blemishes on her skin is indeed her flushing/blush.
